Using eBay

Over recent years eBay has become one of the most successful online retailers.  eBay’s core business is allowing people to sell their unwanted items online.  This is perfect for finding used video games as many gamers want to sell their game once they have played it.  Video games are ideal for buying used because they don’t really get used!  The box and instructions are often untouched and the disc is usually put into the drive and hardly touched by human hands!

The shop at UsedVideoGame.co.uk is powered by eBay.  We provide quick access to the used video games that are available on eBay.  If you purchase an item from the shop you are actually purchasing through eBay and benefit from all buyer protection they offer as a large company.  Their Paypal service also allows purchases to be made using credit cards.

New to eBay?

If you have never used eBay before then click on our shop to get a taste of what it is all about.  The items you will see for sale are from different individuals or companies.  Clicking on an item you are interested in will provide you with more details about it including postage costs and return options.

Signing Up

Before you can buy anything from eBay you will need to sign up and create an account.  The account is free and allows you to leave feedback for the seller of your item.  You can sign up at the same time you actually purchase an item or for more general information you can go to the eBay home page by clicking on the link below.

Staying Safe

If used sensibly then eBay is a safe place to shop, but buyers should be aware of few things:

  • Use common sense - if an item seems to be being sold at a ‘too good to be true’ price then it probably is!  This usually applies to Buy It Now items.  Everyone wants a bargain, but be cautious of items being sold for a fraction of their true value.  (Don’t forget, eBay uses mainly auction style adverts so these will start at a low price.  As the item nears closing the price will usually increase.)
  • Check the advert - make sure you check the advert thoroughly, especially looking out for high postage costs or hidden insurance fees.  These are more common with sellers from the Far East, but you should use the same checks for every purchase.
  • Use PayPal - PayPal is the payment system that eBay recommends and it offers the buyer even more protection.  You can sign up for PayPal at the same time as eBay.

Getting a Bargain

With so many items for sale on eBay there are loads of bargains to be had and here are a few tips on how to find them.

  • Look for the auctions with only a few minutes to go.  If the item is still at a good price then you might be in luck.  These days winning bids often get placed in the last few seconds of an auction, but that isn’t always the case.
  • Look for very new ‘Buy it Now’ listings.  If the seller has chosen a low price for the item then it won’t be listed for long before someone snaps it up…hopefully that will be you!

Have Fun!

Most importantly, have fun while looking around on eBay.  There are so many games on there that you’ll often end up finding a game you didn’t even realise you were looking for.
